ABOLITIONIST ARGUMENTS:
Abolitionists began to divide when more antislavery sentiment and ideas appeared in politics. William Lloyd Garrison believed that slavery corrupted all of society and almost everything needed to change (including women’s rights, African American’s rights, the church, and “corrupt” political parties). Abolitionists opposed to Garrison and his followers thought Garrison’s ideas went against Christian values and believed it was important to nominate and vote for political candidates committed to abolitionism.
